My love affair with printmaking began with lithography. This time honoured tradition of printmaking is both challenging and enticing.
To me the elusive nature of stone lithography epitomises the words of Marcel Proust – “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes”.
My early lithographs ‘Acacia’, ‘Jerusalem Bay’ and ‘Wash Away’ below, began my journey in search of new eyes.
Kamakura series
In my printmaking I explore the sensibilities and the spatial elements which are the essence of oriental art. I am fascinated by the serenity and tranquility of Japanese temples and gardens and images of the Buddha.
Whilst visiting Kamakura, south of Tokyo, I was enveloped by the peace of the massive centuries-old bronze Buddha. The series focuses on what I see as the essence of the Buddha – the hands and the eyes.
Falling Waters
In my ‘Waterfall’ series, I aim to capture the diaphanous veil of falling water in contrast to the rugged, solidarity of rocks.
